Andreas Skov Olsen: World Cup One to Watch
Excitement is starting to build all over the world of football as the 2022 FIFA World Cup is mere days away.
For the players, such huge tournaments are the biggest stages they can get to showcase their talents. Nowhere does this ring truer than for under-23 talents.
Therefore, we will be taking a look at a number of young talents who are primed to impress in Qatar this winter.
Today Neel Shelat joins us to discuss Andreas Skov Olsen.
Career So Far
Born just two days before the turn of the century, Andreas Skov Olsen spent his early days in a Danish town close to Hillerød, playing at the youth academy of his local club. He certainly caught the eyes of those watching him there, because he moved to the renowned FC Nordsjælland youth academy in Farum aged 12.
Just five years later, Skov Olsen found himself making his debut for the senior side in the Danish Superliga – the country’s top-flight. He only managed 5 appearances off the bench in the 2017/18 campaign, but really broke out the following season.
He played over 3,000 minutes and featured in each of his side’s 36 league games that season, returning with a very impressive tally of 22 goals and 4 assists after being fielded as a right winger in a 4-3-3 formation.
As is the case with most Nordsjælland graduates, Skov Olsen’s modest years didn’t prevent him from catching the eye of foreign sides after this incredible season.
Serie A outfit Bologna paid a €6 million transfer fee to take the young Dane to Italy that summer.
