Jonathan David: World Cup One to Watch
Excitement is starting to build all over the world of football as the 2022 FIFA World Cup is mere days away.
For the players, such huge tournaments are the biggest stages they can get to showcase their talents. Nowhere does this ring truer than for under-23 talents.
Therefore, we will be taking a look at a number of young talents who are primed to impress in Qatar this winter.
Today Josh McCafferty joins us to discuss Jonathan David.
Canada will play in the World Cup for only the second time in the nation’s history this winter. A resounding 4-0 win over Jamaica back in March secured their ticket to Qatar.
In said triumph, the man who led the line for ‘Les Rouges’ was a certain Jonathan David, one of the leading marksmen in French Ligue 1 as we speak.
David, who plies his trade for LOSC Lille, will, along with all of his compatriots, be playing at a major tournament for the first time in his career this winter with Canada being drawn in Group F alongside Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco.
It is a group that may well be open to anyone with the two European outfits not getting any younger and Morocco crashing out of the latest AFCON at the quarter-final stage.
Nevertheless, it is fair to say Canada are still underdogs in the competition, but that will not stop the prolific David from leaving his mark on Qatar.
Career So Far
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jonathan David was only eligible to play for Canada after his family emigrated to Ottawa when he was six years old.
