Michael Laudrup’s moment in Mexico
Michael Laudrup was born into a football family.
His father, Finn Laudrup, represented the Danish national team 19 times, and Michael’s brother, Brian Laudrup, also went on to have a great career for club & country.
Michael Laudrup made his debut for the Danish U19 national team in 1981 and also made his senior debut for KB - Kjøbenhavns Boldklub - in the same year. He would go on to join Brøndby IF in 1982 where he enjoyed plenty of success.
Despite his youthful years, in his very first season, Laudrup managed to score 15 goals in the league and ended the season as one of the highest-scoring players in the highest division of Danish football.
His talent was evident very quickly and his achievements were rewarded when he won the ’Danish Player of the Year’ award in 1982.
His ascent to the top was remarkable and he went on to make his debut for the Danish national team on his 18th birthday in the same year. This made him one of Denmark’s youngest debutants ever. A feat that still stands today.
